Lamar University held a “Unity and Peace” candle light service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday night in the Landes Auditorium. The event included MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech and a recitation of his personal history.

Dr. John Bello-Ogunu Sr. said this event highlighted the importance of Martin Luther King and his push for unity and peace.

Other events this week include discussion panel on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm in the Landes Auditorium. The panel members will debate social issues on the past and the present.

The last event of this week is a day of service to help honor MLK by positively influencing the community through community service. Volunteers can sign up for through Orgsync. A complementary lunch will be provided to participants. January 20th 2017 is the last day to sign up.
