The Lamar University wind ensemble and concert band will present their final band concert of the school year, 7:30 p.m., April 21, at Silsbee High School. Admission is free and open to students and the public.
“I’m looking forward to the culmination of this process with our students,” Eric Shannon, director of athletic bands, said. “Each and every concert is unique and presents its own challenges. Making music with 75 musicians takes a great deal of coordination, but it is rewarding to experience the final product. I’m excited to present this music to the community. Our students have worked very hard and we’ve grown a great deal as an ensemble.”
The concert will consist of 75 LU students playing a wide range of music.
“The band tries to play different styles of music to appeal to our crowd, and to learn to become professionals in music,” Shannon said.
The band will also play Texas composer Frank Ticheli’s “Wild Night.”
The Band concert will feature a trumpet solo by LU student Rico Padron, and a saxophone solo by Matt Smith. The concert will be LU Director of Bands Scott Deppe’s final concert as he is retiring.
“He has been here nine years and the program has grown tremendously under his leadership,” Shannon said. “The size and quality of the LU bands today is a direct result of his leadership and effort. He will be missed.”
