A rare snow fall hit the Lamar campus early Dec. 8, as 2.1 inches accumulated on the ground in Southeast Texas, according the National Weather Service in lake Charles, La. It was the seventh-largest snowfall recorded for the area. A hard freeze warning was issued for the Friday night. The weather service stated the all-time record for the area was Valentine’s Day in 1895, when 22 inches of snow fell during a blizzard.
